We the locals of Te Whaiti and Minginui share the knowledge passed down from our Tipuna Ancestors, Toi Kairakau, stories of how the Whirinaki Ngahere forest was home to them and their traditions, their history, , we speak of how important the Taiao environment is to us, and been sustainable.

Hikoi ki te ngahere ote Whirinaki
Whirinaki Forest Guided Walks
located 1 hour and 30 minutes from Rotorua, Taupo and Whakatane, welcome to our prehistoric Ngahere Forest,
30 minute stop at our local Marae, your local guide will give you a korero talk about the carvings on the wharenui, meeting house, before venturing into the Whirinaki Forest, your first guided walk will be to the Te Whaiti Nui A Toi Canyon 1.50 hour walk.

Lunch will be provided, before the second walk,
​
Hangi a traditional meal thats cooked in the ground, will be served in rourou with refreshments, listen to waiata songs from the locals while you enjoy your kai food.
​
The second walk is to the H Tree, a mighty native tree shaped like a capital letter H, then a visit to the Mangamate Waterfall, before departure back to your accommodation.
